You can’t be alcohol-friendly without being people-friendly
12 Oct 2022
In case you haven't heard, recently - there was a road accident in Tanjong Pagar that took the lives of five people. Investigation revealed that the driver's blood alcohol level was above the legal limit. Unfortunately, this wasn't a one-off situation. Just last year alone, "1,000 people were caught by the traffic police for drunken driving in the first nine months."
What can it be attributed to?
Is drinking alcohol the sole reason? Is it so wrong to want a night out to loosen up a bit?
Well, the truth is that often the fault isn't that people are consuming alcohol. It's that sometimes, they seem to be doing so irresponsibly and putting themselves and others in a dangerous situation in the process. As you may know, alcohol-related problems like complete intoxication, underage drinking, and drunk driving are major issues that affect individuals and society -at large. However, it's not just the responsibility of individuals or policymakers to commit to creating a safe environment wherever alcohol is consumed on the premises. So, it's also the duty of establishments like restaurants, bars, nightclubs, resorts, and hotels.
Such places are apt for people to create good memories. There's a nice conversation, some good music, a few dance moves, and amazing food. Unfortunately, this very scenario can turn sour when alcohol is misused.
